Shallots have a tonne of flavor, and they have properties that can improve your cooking and are in the same family as garlic and onion, but are quite different. A raw shallot is strong and pungent in flavor (similar to raw onion), but when cooked they are much more mild and slightly sweet. Raw or cooked, shallots can add a richness and punch to your food. Roasted, sautéed, grilled, or fried, shallots are a fun ingredient to play with.
