Most commonly known as black beans, they are small, black and shiny. They have an almost mushroom-like flavour, hold their shape well when cooked and absorb flavours well. The surface of the black bean is a super source of beneficial anthocyanin flavonoids. These nutrients give the bean its rich black colour. Beans are cholesterol-free and contain no saturated fat. One-half cup serving of beans contains about 8 grams of dietary protein.
At Grainworks, farming is our passion and family our foundation. Our commitment to healthy foods and a healthy planet started with our great grandparents’ homestead over a century ago. Today we grow Certified Organic, Non-GMO grains and legumes on some of Canada’s most fertile farmland.
We know great food springs from the good seeds we sow in harmony with nature. It all begins with the best seed, carefully tended and harvested. We then mill, process and package delicious, wholesome foods for our family and yours. If it can’t be grown here on the prairies, we have searched far and wide for organic farmers and suppliers in other climate and soil zones that share our passion for great food and a healthy earth.
